The Red Knights of Oblivion

A World Eaters warband. Stranded, and not entirely sorry about it.

How they came to be here

Drawn to the forge-clave of Skarn before the warp routes closed, Daemon Prince Verux the Unholy judged it an excellent opportunity to test his prowess and his warband’s. The added advantage, he presumed, was a good supply of everything he and his murderous kin require — skulls, and the weaponry with which to take them.

As it became apparent that the gates were shutting, pacts were struck with unholy beings. Those otherworldly allies are held in reserve aboard the warband’s battle barge, the Eviscerator Rex.

The knowledge has since spread among his own men that they are stranded.

This gives a certain satisfaction to everyone in Khorne’s thrall — there is no escape, and therefore no question of retreat. But there is frustration too. The opportunity to wreak death and supply skulls for the Throne is finite here, and the Red Knights have been working through it for four years.

Rumour has it there are artefacts of power upon the Ten worlds that may serve for escape, once Lord Khorne is satisfied with this sacrifice.

Dramatis Personae

Prince Verux the Unholy — a once-venerated Captain, ascended to daemonhood following victories over the Emperor’s Children. He holds a particular dislike for that foppish and garish Legion, which he believes to be a parody of what martial prowess should be.

Kharn the Betrayer — a raging storm of slaughter. The embodiment of the Eightfold Path, and a true avatar of Khorne.

Ba’rule, Eighth Lord of the Skull Throne — bound by pact and held by Verux, to be unleashed when required. A being of little patience and great fury. Should Verux fail to deliver whatever it is he has promised, the Eighth Lord may add another skull to his own collection.

Verux beware.

  • Skarn is contested. The forge-clave still services the Crosius fleet, so the Red Knights have not taken it — but they have been at it for four years and something has to give. First flashpoint.
  • Verux and the Emperor’s Children have history. He ascended by killing them. He would like to do so again.
  • Ba’rule’s patience is a clock. Whatever Verux promised, it is not yet delivered.
